A wedding is every girl’s dream, so hiring a wedding photographer who cannot do the job perfectly is a nightmare. The wedding is a one-time, life changing and most memorable event so it is imperative to have photos you can always look back to and a video that captures every moment. Here we offer tips to making sure you hire the best wedding photographer and videographer to make your event last forever.
1. Don’t hire the first photographer you meet…
or a freelancer, or a friend who takes scenic shots. In NYC, every other person you meet is a photographer and soon to be graduates consider themselves professional film editors and videographers; these are the people you want to think twice before hiring. A freelancer probably doesn’t specialize in one particular area so you want to make sure the person you hire focuses soley on weddings. You can tell a lot about ones experience by the price one charges. If someone is offering a wedding package suspiciously below the average, chances are that person is not as experienced and, therefore, not able to charge average prices.
But don’t take my word for it, which leads me to my second point:
2. Do your homework and look at their portfolios.
This is obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many people hire their friend without actually ensuring he or she is best qualified or experienced. And who could blame them; it’s so easy to overlook this when planning a wedding. You only get married once, hopefully, so you can’t afford to get this wrong. Part of your homework should be researching online for any reviews of your wedding photographer and even calling references. But beware, the references may only be good ones so keep that in mind. You want someone awesome, but one you easily get along with. Do not undermine a wedding photographer’s personality because you do not want to think about the annoying photographer every time you look at your wedding photos.
3. Photos over package and album.
Yes an album is absolutely beautiful, but they are costly. If you cannot afford to purchase that package, go for photos instead; you can always package your wedding photos in an adorable album at a later time. Spend more on getting a great photographer and no album then an incompetent one who can package bad photos in nice album.
